Picture Book

Fans of Pinkney’s  Caldecott Medal – winning The Lion and The Mouse  will be equally enchanted by his retelling of another of Aesop’s fables, The Tortoise and The Hare.  Pinkney’s  storytelling is through the use of his amazing art and he includes very few words. However, you child will know the message “slow and steady wins the race” by the end of the tale! Pinkney, similar to storytelling artist Jan Brett, does in-depth research on his subjects. He has set this telling in the American Southwest, a natural habitat for both main characters, which provides a veritable host of other creatures for the story. This book’s lovely warm, gentle and nuanced art creates a wonderful  way to engage children and their growing vocabulary as they are able to “tell” the story to you, themselves, a sibling, whoever will listen!
