A down to earth story with lots of sweetness, depth and heart. I wanted to stay in it; and live there for awhile with the women who are all about healing stray creatures.
At 13, Lydia has lost her Mom to a heart condition and goes to live with her aunt and family. The heart failure was expected; giving Lydia and her mother time to prepare. Her Mom is exceptional in the way she is able to accept her fate and prepare her daughter. There are really good lessons here. They are both artistic and together create goddesses from found materials. The naming of the goddesses and their stories is a strong legacy for Lydia after her mother’s death. Ultimately a difficult rescue dog becomes the central character around which Lydia heals and bonds with her new family. I loved reading this gentle healing story and didn’t want it to end.
