A sweet fantasy about a young girl and her aunt who are shown how fishing with plastic nets is damaging the coral reef in Aquacorn Cove and how the reef has protected their small village from storms. This young graphic novel that uses wordless panels and speech bubbles would be great for introducing environmental thinking to third grade and younger. It’s also about a girl grieving for her mother who loved the sea. In learning how to become a guardian of the sea, she realizes that although she misses her mother’s care, she can learn to be a guardian of herself too.
