This is historical fiction done so beautifully, that we are changed by the observations and realizations of a young girl. She manages to find strength and hope in incredibly difficult circumstances.

It’s a tough story to read, when you realize that stories like this were true for thousands of Americans. Although it’s told gently and sensibly Japanese internment-camps and then the bombing of Hiroshima. I hope all kids reading this will have the opportunity to talk it over with understanding adults and that we will all find the strength to speak out against racism and war. How many stories like this need to be told for our next generation to make better choices? This is such an important topic; I’m grateful to every author who contributes to the cause of teaching our kids a more compassionate world view.
