The Southwest Harbor Public Library is partnering with the National Digital Equity Center (NDEC) to provide onsite Digital Literacy Classes in June and July in an effort to create innovative strategies to close the digital divide across Maine.
Introduction to MS Word
This is a series of 3 Sessions
Monday, June 6, 11 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Tuesday, June 7, 11 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Wednesday, June 8, 11 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Learn how to format text, use paragraph dialog boxes, add indents, work with tables and columns, and do more with your documents.
Identifying Frauds & Scams
Thursday, June 23 at 11:00 a.m.
Learn about the different types of internet fraud and scams, the dos and don’ts of protecting yourself online and what to do if you have experienced online fraud or abuse.
Using Email Effectively
Thursday, July 7 at 9:00 a.m. – 10:00 a.m.
Email is a means of communicating with others, throughout the world, in a fast and efficient manner. This class will cover the terms and techniques necessary to use email in an efficient, safe and organized manner. These classes are free but space is limited.
These classes are being offered in the Clark Room where participants will view the NDEC instructor on Zoom with a local facilitator available in-person to assist the instructor and students. Bring your own device, or reserve a library laptop.
Please note: you will need to fill out a one-time enrollment form for the NDEC when you sign up for your first class.

The National Digital Equity Center’s “Maine Digital Inclusion Initiative” program was launched in 2018 and promotes and advocates for Digital Inclusion for Maine and its people. Included is the expansion of digital literacy services to traditionally underserved populations to provide job training/employment-related education as well as technology training to older adults. The program has engaged and trained digital literacy instructors to provide computer skills/digital literacy instruction to adult learners throughout Maine.
