I love this book. It’s about two boys spending the summer with their grandparents in the south. The Grandpa is blind and both Grandma and Grandpa have lots of left over issues from loosing a son to the war. The book beautifully portrays an innocent time in the boys’ lives when they will dare anything but also begin to understand fear and mortality. The setting and characters are colorful, real, and believable. No fancy plot devices just wonderful characters and great story telling. I feel like I’ve been in Grandma’s kitchen and I want to go back!
