Here is another book I loved and will love to recommend. The story is action packed, is beautifully told and asks big questions. Similar in theme to The Lion Boy Trilogy and We Can’t All Be Rattlesnakes, it uses a bit of fantasy to allow communication between animals and a human. The title refers to a luxury resort in South America where the rich and famous go to enjoy seeing exotic animals. The owner’s son stutters so badly that he cannot speak to people but is given the gift of speech with animals. Political and economic pressures on the father cause corruption and greed. A surprising relationship with a jaguar of power develops and soon the son must face his own special nature to rescue his friends. The presumed right to dominate animals is severely challenged. A dramatic and colorful setting and compelling characters make me want to stay longer in this magical story.
